For the 23rd time, the Mainz Science Market invites you to discover, try out, and be amazed. After many years on Gutenbergplatz, the popular event format of the Mainz Science Alliance is moving to the Platz der Mainzer Republik in front of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament. This year, it will take place for the first time on the Platz der Mainzer Republik in front of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament. At this new, centrally located venue, it will offer exciting insights into current research and innovation topics under the motto “People and Learning.”

Public weekend

On the weekend of September 13 and 14, 2025, universities, research institutes, and companies from Mainz and the surrounding region will present their work in an interactive way and bring science to life for visitors of all ages. Hands-on experiments and a stage program, exciting demonstrations, quiz formats, exhibits, and personal discussions with researchers will show how diverse and practical science is today—and what role learning in all its facets plays in it.

WIMA for schools

New: This year, on Friday morning, September 12, the tents will be open exclusively for school classes for the first time. Schools can register for selected hands-on activities and give their students special access to research and knowledge.

Single cell isolation and analysis - A step into the future of diagnostics

In our projects on single cell isolation and analysis, we focus on the diagnostics of rare tumor cells for cancer diagnosis. We rely on microfluidic technologies. These enable the rapid and flexible analysis of rare tumor cells from blood and tissue samples, which can make a decisive contribution to cancer diagnosis. The Fraunhofer Performance Center for Single Cell Technologies (LZ-EZT) was established to further advance our developments.

We offer interactive opportunities for all high school students and university students studying chemistry, physics, and biology: from pipetting and microscopy activities to exciting games on single cell analysis. Join us!
