Webinar “Go for green: Microreactors in electrochemical flow synthesis”

Speaker: Nils Baumgarten

Driven by the need to save resources and to reduce waste electrochemistry experiences a substantial renaissance. Being powered by sustainably generated electric current electrochemistry has all potential to be a real „green“ synthesis route at lab and industrial scale.

Fraunhofer IMM has taken a leading role with over 25 years of experience as pioneer in the design, construction, and manufacture of continuously operated electrochemical microreactors (ECMR) for a manifold of applications. Thereby the electrolyte is pumped through a channel realized by the two electrodes of the setup.

In our webinar we will present our recent developments and progresses, point out the relevance of microreactor technology for the implementation of electrochemical processes and outline your benefits in a possible cooperation in terms of time, money and resources.

Electrochemical flow-through microreactors have proven to be a superior tool for the implementation of flow electrosynthesis:

  • improved energy efficiency due to reduced distance between the electrodes and a resulting lower ohmic resistance
  • defined fluid dynamics and precise control of residence time due to the integration of distribution and reaction channels
  • parameter optimization on lab scale is feasible due to the flexible design of modular ECMR’s, electrosynthesis with various electrode materials and setups
  • easy conversion from lab to pilot or industrial scale due to a modular approach, parallel numbering-up of electrochemical cells and operation at increased current densities and throughputs

The presentation will be held in English.
