Webinar "How can optical sensor technology make a difference in microfluidics?"

Speaker: Dr. Cornelius Bausch / Dr. Thomas Klotzbücher

Optical measurement technology is widely used in many areas of sensor technology. One of the challenges for their use in microfluidics is their miniaturization.

Integrating optical measurement technology into microfluidic systems.

In this webinar, we will present some examples of how the integration of optical mmeasurement technology into microfluidic systems can be achieved. These include: fluorescence detection on single biological cells, so-called flow cytometry in microfluidic channels. The webinar will show how the use of microfluidic processes can contribute to automation.

Optimization of processes using inline measurement

The integration of dynamic light scattering, an optical method for sizing nanoparticles, into microfluidic systems for particle formulation will also be presented. This inline measurement can be used to rapidly optimize and monitor processes.

Non-dispersive spectroscopy as a cost-effective solution for on-line measurements

For the measurement of analyte concentrations in flow-through, non-dispersive spectroscopy is a cost-effective solution, as it is easy to integrate for online measurements. This includes for example:

  • the online monitoring of lubricating oil condition by means of absorption measurements in the MIR,
  • the monitoring of cleaning solutions in the NIR or
  • the monitoring of blood glucose content by means of microdialysis in the NIR.

The respective requirements for the microfluidic flow cells, the optical measurement principle and its integration will be presented with illustrative examples.

We will also show you ways in which you can benefit from our experience as an institute for industry-relevant research.

The presentations will be held in English.
